Welcome to the MHSOB Hockey Club web site!
MHSOBHC is an enthusiastic, friendly, medium-sized Club, comprising a mixture of young families, professionals and students. Our qualified coaches cater to every level of experience and ability. All grades of Women, Men, Veterans, and Juniors train and socialise together, and share a single cohesive Club administration.
Club history
While the Melbourne High School Old Boys Hockey Club retains strong links to Melbourne High School through our many current students, Old Boys and their families, much of our membership comes to us through friends or workmates of current players, local residents and international visitors. The successful merger with Caulfield Women's Hockey Club in 2005 has also brought a wealth of knowledge, skills, experience and tradition to the club, continuing to strengthen the MHSOBHC both on and off the field.
The Caulfield club was formed in the 1970’s and was a women’s only club. Nomadic, they never had their own pitch to call home, but used to play matches mostly at Hawthorn whilst training there, or even at an indoor gym when pitches were unavailable. The club’s first team were regulars in the old State League 3 and State League 2 divisions, and made finals often. Seeking to strengthen their base and find a more permanent home the club merged with MHSOB in 2005, and swapped their royal blue/yellow and red uniforms for the now familiar maroon and green. With MHSOB having such strong men’s section but small women’s section at the time, it made sense for the merger to take place. Since the merger, MHSOB/Caulfield have continued to be a competitive force in their respective leagues, participating in finals for the past 3 years.
MHSOB has a long and proud history at all levels of Victorian Hockey: winning State League (now Vic League/Premier League) Premierships in 1994, 1996, 2001 & 2010; producing numerous State and Australian representatives; and competing in State League One (now Premier League) in 1997 and 2003.
